Taiwanese company Brook - designers of the popular family of Super Converters and one of the first manufacturers whose converters managed to gain tentative acceptance by EVO - returns with a new flavor of Fighting Board

Version 2017 offers a standard USB printer portVersion 2017 - Standard USB B Jack and UFB Pinout

The earlier Brook PS4+ Fighting Board with Audio sported a micro USB port and unconventional pin layout when compared to their Brook Universal Fighting Board with Headers.  This led to difficulties when trying to connect wiring.  Feedback received from both vendors and players encouraged Brook to consider the traditional USB B port design to the main board and included breakout board. For our part, the inclusion of JST headers instead of pin headers allowed us to connect our 4-Pin L3/R3/Touchpad Button Harness to the PS4+ Fighting Board and Universal Fighting Board, which was one of our requests for the redesign.

Now you can utilize more common cables to connect to the board, such as the 18 Inch Male A-B USB 2.0 Cable which connects to a Neutrik NAUSB-W-B A/B USB Feed-Through, or the 10 Foot Male A-B USB 2.0 Cable to connect the included breakout board directly to the console.

    Audio In, Audio Out

One of the standout features of the Brook PS4+ Fighting Board with Audio is its small form-factor breakout board, which supports PS4 audio via headphone jack (note: PS4 audio only, not compatible with PS3 or Switch). It's a fantastic way to add functionality that is lacking in many contemporary Fightsticks, especially if you don't have access to a PS4 bluetooth headset.

    Now includes Nintendo Switch Compatibility

Thanks to Brook's most recent firmware update, this device now supports Nintendo Switch! To activate:

    1. Hold down the Cross (1K) button
    2. Plug device into Switch Dock

Please note that this functionality does not work for Nintendo Switch Lite as it cannot connect to the Dock.

PS4+ Board breakout connector with Neutrik form factor

    Neutrik Form Factor

The unique design of the breakout board is hardly accidental.  In fact, it was specifically shaped with matching dimensions to the popular Neutrik family of USB connectors, specifically the Neutrik NAUSB-W-B A/B USB Feed-Through.  This allows the breakout board to fit within any spare 24mm hole spaces in your Fightstick.  This tried-and-true design makes installing the headphone jack and USB cable much simpler. See our photo gallery for additional dimensional specifications of the breakout board.

    Tournament Acceptance

As of now, the Brook Super Converter and Wingman series are allowed by EVO, one of the most popular global tournament events.  Often EVO's policies are adopted at smaller tournaments. This policy is a tentative acceptance - should the converter become disabled via Sony firmware update before EVO, it could face a ban.  You can learn more about it herenew-window-icon.png

    • JST and pin headers available for VCC, player 1-4 LEDs, RS, DP and LS mode, touch pad, touch pad button, Turbo button, and alternative USB output connector.
    • Near identical form factor and connections to Brook Universal Fighting Board with Headers makes installation familiar to most joystick builders.

    What's Included

The Brook PS4+ Fighting Board with Audio includes the PCB with headers, plus breakout board and cables.  Both are wrapped in a padded static-free pouch, and encased in a protective, professionally-designed box.  Software support is upcoming from Brook's website.

If you considered replacing your existing FightStick PCBA or building a custom joystick of your own, the Brook PS4+ Fighting Board with Audio provides a cost-efficient solution while the addition of a headphone ts headphone getting you immersed into the action of the game with your online competitors.

    Support

    Firmware

Firmware updates, plus update guide for the Universal Fighting Board are available via Brook's websitenew-window-icon.png

Occasionally Sony's firmware updates have removed Brook's PS4 support. Brook is quick to update their firmware to address it.  When you are purchasing for the first time, it is always worthwhile to check that you have the latest firmware installed for the device.

Please note that firmware for the PS3/PS4 Fighting Board or Universal Fighting Board are not compatible with this device. Uploading the firmware from those devices into this one will cause the device to malfunction

    1. Good first impressions! Missing one small part

I've had the board for ~24 hours and it has been exactly as I hoped. I've tested it and it's been great on PS3, PS4, Switch, Windows 11, and Linux (Debian 12)

Install was almost too easy, but on a first build, I found out it didn't come with any screws for the USB board. At this point, I see FA sells 4-40 machine screws and nuts for $0.25, but it would have been nice if they were included like the are on the Neutrik USB boards.

    2. This product is amazing

The brooks board is easy to setup with no soldering required, which is a huge plus. on Jul 9th 2020

    3. Switch compatible

got this for a birthday gift and I have to say it works fantastic for the purpose it serves. Once you've gone on to brook's website and gotten the firmware update this controller works with the nintendo switch and even the switch lite if you connect your fightstick too the switch lite through the usb-c port if you have a usb-a to usb-c cable. on Dec 1st 2019

    4. Great

it works flawlessly on my PS4, and it was very forgiving while installing and handling it. an absolutely recommendable product. just wow. on Oct 2nd 2019

    5. An Excellent PCB. Works on the Switch too!

At first, I seemed nervous about using this PCB for my new AllFightStick 14 inch case. However, after trying it on, it was definitely well worth the patience and money spent. The buttons responded well with it, the configuration to set it up is pretty simple and the update procedure is awesome. This PCB is something I recommend to someone who has the PS3, PS4, the PC, and the Nintendo Switch and if you don't really plan to have the Xbox One at all. Give it a shot, people. You might like it. :) on Sep 30th 2019

    6. Works well

I'm currently building a custom Hitbox with this board. Thanks to it's J5 connection pins and a few resistors, I was able to set up buttons for the right stick's directional inputs with full hardware SODC.

One issue I have with Brook is that their website refuses to load on any of my PCs, so getting firmware updates for the board is absolutely out of the question. I tweeted them about this and got no reply.

    7. Great product but no linux support

it doesn't work on ubuntu 16.10 on Mar 29th 2018

    8. Made My First Fightstick Build Easy!

The PCB was the only part of my fightstick project that had me intimidated. There were great reviews for Brook PCB's and when I saw this one came with the Neutrik USB port, I was sold just due to the fact that it made things a breeze to set up a spot to connect the fightstick. While I bought all my internal parts and buttons on FA, I got my shell from tek innovations and you can customize the shell to have a Neutrik port cut into it. The feeling was incredible when I plugged it in and everything worked perfectly! I couldn't be happier with my build. It was such a breeze to install this PCB. I'm building a 2nd fightstick now and using the same board. I got friends that want me to build them sticks now, too. Very happy with this! So much that I'm buying a 2nd one. I don't play fighters on tournament levels, but I love to fire up FightCade for Street Fighter and my setup is now perfect! on Oct 9th 2017

    9. Spectacular Support

I'm putting together a Hitbox style controller, and I had some questions about the SOCD functionality. Focus Attack Support responded to my inquiry quickly, and Joey was very patient and helpful while we e-mailed back and forth.

      Thanks very much!

Oh yeah, the SOCD support functions normally out of the box, so you won't be accused of being a cheater :)

    10. Good product, poor documentation.

Update from FA: We have informed Brook about the discrepancy with the printed documentation.
      ---
I bought this board to upgrade my old Qanba Q4 with PS4 capabilities, and installing was a breeze. Granted, I'm pretty handy with electronics to begin with, and I soldered on everything I didn't already have a wiring harness for.

The only complaint I have so far is the incredibly poor documentation. While trying to wire the controller port LEDs, I realized the included insert was incorrect, requiring me to go online for a proper diagram and re-solder to the proper pins.
