Sanwa is discontinuing the GTYR8 gate; inventory here will remain until sold out. You can now alternatively purchase the Sanwa GT-8X Square Restrictor Gate and Sanwa GTN-Y Octagonal Restrictor Gate Insert.
Quarter-circle, half-circle and full 360 motions no longer take effort or feel unnatural after installing a Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Gate into your TE or Hori/Sanwa JLF setup. A full 8 corners allows for smoother and more responsive motions for fireball, dragon-uppercut and spinning piledriver attacks. Those investing their time in wrestling chars such as Zangief or Shoto chars such as Ryu, Ken, Sakura, Akuma, and Dan(!), deserve to swap out their existing 4-way gate for this one.
The Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Gate is compatible with the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT Joystick and Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y-SK Joystick (No Plate Installed).
Never being a fan of circular or square type gates, the Sanwa Octagonal Restrictor Gate is a must buy.
These parts are high quality at a low price.
This pairs well with any Sanwa joystick currently available on Focus Attack, and works exceptionally well with the Sanwa JLF-TPRG-8AYT-SK Silent Microswitch Joystick.
Keep in mind for the Silent Sanwa you will need to break the warranty seal to take off the all-in-one square gate. Unknown on Dec 15th 2015
At the height of the popularity of fighting games, octagonal restrictor gates became common in fighting games. While most have switched to square these days, many of us still feel more comfortable using the old standard--especially for hitting diagonals. The Sanwa GT-Y restrictor gate is a quick and painless way to return to those roots. I've put probably a dozen of them into various joysticks over the years, even junky ones, and typically the only thing that's required is to secure it to the pegs on the joystick housing or screw it in. Every so often I'll find a stick that forces me to drill new holes into the gate, but that's gone well too. Frank P. on Sep 23rd 2015
I bought a Sanwa JLF style joystick to use in a game controller I built for use with my PC, and it came with the normal 4/8-way square restrictor gate. I started to notice that while in game, I tended to move in diagonals by accident when trying to move in the four cardinal directions. I after I found this site, I ordered a real Sanwa JLF joystick first, but I also bought this octagonal gate and the round one.
I have found, while playing, that this gate is the absolute perfect gate for gaming with the joystick in your lap and your attention completely focused on the game. It works a thousand times better than the square gate for directional movement, and allows you to know exactly where to put your stick to move in the direction you are trying to go.
You may want to use the circular gate if you are playing a fighting game and you have your stick on a desk, because it may help you with the types of combos that require a half or full circle button combo, but this one is great for character movement when you don't have the stick in a normal position. I placed this in my Razer Atrox One and love it. I am used to the old school arcade cabinets with the octagonal feel and this matches perfect. Can't beat the price either. Geoff Alexander on Aug 20th 2015
I put this in my Hori wireless Hori FS-3 to replace the stock gate and now you get that arcade octagonal feel makes it more precise and installation was simple for me. Great pricing from FA. Ed on Aug 17th 2015
