Sanwa is discontinuing the GTYR8 gate; inventory here will remain until sold out. You can now alternatively purchase the Sanwa GT-8X Square Restrictor Gate and Sanwa GTN-Y Octagonal Restrictor Gate Insert.
Quarter-circle, half-circle and full 360 motions no longer take effort or feel unnatural after installing a Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Gate into your TE or Hori/Sanwa JLF setup. A full 8 corners allows for smoother and more responsive motions for fireball, dragon-uppercut and spinning piledriver attacks. Those investing their time in wrestling chars such as Zangief or Shoto chars such as Ryu, Ken, Sakura, Akuma, and Dan(!), deserve to swap out their existing 4-way gate for this one.
The Sanwa GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor Gate is compatible with the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT Joystick and Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y-SK Joystick (No Plate Installed).
Some people will tell you that a Square gate is the way to go.
Others will tell you that the only option is a circle.
This is the middle ground between them.
There is no wrong answer when it comes to the type of restrictor gate you have in your stick. Japanese arcade machines and sticks use a square by default, American arcade Machines use a circle or octagon. If you are having problems with your inputs on the various corners you might want to consider this.
The Sanwa Octagonal Restrictor gate is the best of the octagonal breed, fits perfectly easy with any JLF, takes mere seconds to install. It is a sturdy gate that will get you through tons of fight sessions. If you're in the market for an octagonal restrictor gate, this is the one to get. Argnoth on Apr 13th 2016
Corners are waaaaaay more defined. Kinda of what I was looking for. Perfect fitment and easy install. BIZ_TAKE on Apr 9th 2016
Great product! I transitioned from a square gate to this and almost instantly noticed an improvement in my game. It gave me a better sense of where my joystick was positioned compared to the square gate. 10/10 would buy again. Zac on Apr 4th 2016
This restrictor gate is the best in my opinion. Sturdy construction, perfect fit. A1. Greg on Mar 22nd 2016
I got this to give it a try vs the square gate. Ultimately ended back on the square but that doesn't change that this gate is a great product. Chris on Mar 18th 2016
This gate works perfectly with my stick and as of rn my go-to with octagonal gates. If you want to make the switch then look no for because this is best octagonal gate you will find on the market! Tyler Stevens on Mar 16th 2016
Great product works so well with my fight stick. Manny on Mar 9th 2016
If you're thinking square or octagonal it's up to preference but I love this octagonal and definitely won't be switching back to square. Jing on Feb 20th 2016
Provides what it advertises, and very skillfully at that. Listen to the reviews as they're true. Great product, and I would buy more products from them in the future. Unknown on Feb 10th 2016
Square gate was getting annoying for anything but fighting games, and as I'm more of a retro arcade type of player, I bought this hoping it would help. And it really does for platformers, beat them all, Shmups, you name it!
The only thing some might not like is it significantly widen the throw, so get a Kowal 1mm oversize actuator to go with it, it's cheap and you might like it better with it. Yoann M. on Dec 26th 2015
