Sanwa is an undisputed leader in the Japanese arcade market, but that doesn't mean the company isn't inspired by community-born modifications to their celebrated joystick levers. Today, the company asks you to do just that - mod to your heart's content - with a selection of color-coded performance enhancers.
Each spring modification is designed to adjust tension load in two areas: the beginning of the lever tilt, and end of the tilt. Notice that all but the red spring increases tension up as you finish movement towards the cardinal direction.
This spring has a 1.5 "Starting Tension" load and 1.5 "Ending Tension" load.
This part will fit the following models
Sanwa's original restrictor plate - the GT-8F 4/8-Way Restrictor Plate - is not compatible with the newer GTN-VI, GTN-Y, GTN-B and GTN-R inserts.
For those who would like to replace their original guide on the Sanwa JLF-TPRG-8BYT-SK Higher Tension Silent Microswitch Joystick, the contact of the lead switch may shift due to the impact when the guide plate is attached, and it may not operate normally. You may want to avoid the guide tips part of the mod for that model.
The JL-C-ALL kit and associated parts was designed for authentic Sanwa JLF models. We're unable to speak for all Sanwa JLF clones on the market, or "knock-off" models that are pre-built into lower-cost Fightsticks, nor cheaper Zippy models.
It certainly is a Sanwa JLF Blue Spring (1.5, 1.5 Tension Load).

Having purchased all of the spring options, IMO for a stock JLF/JLX this is the best one if you like a heavier spring.
2lbs while it may feel satisfying at first like you are operating some heavy piece of machinery, is fatiguing and noticeably slowed down my inputs. Granted I am a pretty big guy who has been weightlifting for many years, so for other people lighter might be better.
But the takeaway is, for most people who like the feel of a heavier spring, you can probably stop here and don't need to go any higher.
Granted, I have since switched back to the stock spring after installing the OTTO V1 pivot, as the pivot itself increases the perceived tension, and to me it feels like having a 1.5lb spring with the standard pivot. My girlfriend, who likes the reduced throw/engage of the OTTO V1 pivot, but doesn't like the increased tension wishes there were options for even lighter than stock springs.
But unfortunately, the only people selling lighter than stock springs is paradise arcade. And while I am willing to spend hundreds of dollars modding our sticks, I refuse to pay $10 to ship a spring just on a principle alone. So if anyone from focus attack is reading this, and I know you are, please consider offering a 0.5lb spring. Unknown on Jan 13th 2024
I recently restored an old ps3 hori fighting stick and decided to swamp out the stock spring since it was a little too loose for the bulletop i put on it. It worked great, not too stiff and not super loose. If you are playing tekken, this spring helps the shaft return to neutral much faster and you'll have less double or phantom inputs.
I recommend trying all of them if you can but if you had to try two get and longer variations. The blue and red springs will feel as if you need to apply the same consistent amount of force to perform most movements in any direction. Unknown on Jan 8th 2024
The 1.5/1.5 tension spring seems to be a good balance for those (like me) who don't like their joystick movement extremely loose, while not being as stiff as the 2lbs tension springs. Christian Curutchet on Jun 2nd 2023
.5 really makes a difference compared to stock , no more double inputs in tekken , if you want more tension and dont know whats best just buy em all like i did . Turns out 1.5 / 1.5 ration is the best for me Juulz on May 13th 2023
