The NAUSB ports are reversible. By default, Neutrik has the B port on the inside, and the A port on the outside. The FGC typically has these ports reversed. Please read our support article for detailed instructions on how to reverse the ports.
The Neutrik NAUSB-W A/B USB Feed-Through is an essential component for your DIY joystick or multi-console PCB modifications. The A/B adapter allows you to put a USB port outside of your case, attaching a USB cord to the console through one side, and a USB forwarding cable to your main PCB. Best of all, the USB "A" and USB "B" sides are reversible. This means that you can choose which port is on the inside or outside of the case.
The NAUSB doesn't usually come with mounting screws from the manufacturer. Now, with every Neutrik USB purchase you will receive 4-40 Machine Screw and 4-40 Nut (Set of 2) free of charge. Use them to install your NAUSB into a wood or plastic case. For those looking to fit this component into their joystick, please refer to the schematic drawing:
The mounting screws Focus Attack includes in the Neutrik NAUSB-W-B A/B USB Feed-Through they send are English unit screws, not metric!
Use the outside housing holes of the Neutrik NAUSB as a guide for your drill bit. I recommend a 7/64 inch drill bit. That size bit worked out perfectly for me.
I also recommend for safety reasons to use a cordless, variable speed drill with safety glasses.
After I drilled the screw holes, the Neutrik NAUSB went in smoother than even the RJ45 passthrough that was originally installed in that joystick base. With the Buttercase SAS Red (3-D printed) parts, I felt the Neutrik NAUSB was durable and secure enough to last for a decade or more... GeorgeC on Sep 14th 2023
If you're making a retro-console joystick OR converting an existing joystick to multi-/retro-console, this is NOT the cable adapter for you. You probably need the RJ45 passthrough! Judging from my experience with the RJ45 passthrough, it's engineered well and TOUGH to break. The Neutrik NAUSB looks more fragile.
The Neutrik AUSB adapter is convenient for PCB's that have the B-type USB plug-in. The leadout cable from that PCB you'll need is a A-B USB cable, usually 20 inches or less. I'd recommend the A-B cable with at least one right angle for the B-type plug-in. Otherwise, you'll be playing "contort the cable" to get it fit inside unless you have a BIG joystick base -- say Mad Catz Rd 1/TE case-size or bigger.
I do see a point where people remark that the middle B-type plug-in piece on the Neutrik AUSB adapter is weak. I think that middle piece (B-type plug) COULD break off or wiggle off within a year. Like it or not, I think buying the Buttercade / ButterOJ reinforcement (Neutrik NAUSB Surround and Support) for the Neutrik AUSB might not be a bad idea! It'll probably keep the adapter good for 10 years. I've heard of these adapters breaking within a year when they DON'T have the reinforcement for the adapter.
I guess my only other criticism of the Neutrik NAUSB adapter is that I wish it were pre-configured to fit in your joystick base! Most of us will have to disassemble the adapter and screw it back together with the B-type plug facing out. My other issue was that I had drilled holes to install an RJ45 passthrough in the joystick base this Neutrik AUSB adapter was going into. When I changed out the RJ45 adapter for the Neutrik AUSB adapter, I had to widen the holes slightly! No big deal -- I'm safe with power tools! LOL GeorgeC on Sep 11th 2023
Great item for custom build hitbox or fighstick shipped on time and arrived early Andrew on Jan 19th 2023
The plastic center of the B port fell out after a year of moderate use. This makes the attached cord more prone to falling out. Zach Coffman on Aug 19th 2021
Built two fightsticks with this and it's a great piece of hardware. Saves your pc's connection. Currently working on a Hitbox with it, and it's still great. Unknown on Sep 23rd 2017
Picture doesn't show but the other end is a Female USB A connector.
Both USB connector ends is reversible by unscrewing the back.
Doesn't come with mounting screws, well at least mine didn't.
Works with PS3/PC ZERO DELAY USB ENCODER PCB.
I wished Focus Attack had Neutrik dust cap/covers. Unknown on Sep 10th 2017
This thing is perfect for any DIY arcade stick as it functions perfectly, the A and B sides are reversible, and a cake to install! Wonderful product! Diamond Banks on Jul 10th 2017
The Neutrik NAUSB-W-B A/B USB Feed-Through is a must for any arcade stick mod enthusiast. I purchased this to make my Madcatz (RIP) SE stick modular, and it does the trick allowing me to use any size cable length i need when connecting to any console. The beautiful thing about this product is that you can choose to have the USB B side facing outwards instead of the A side as featured in the photograph. Faraz on Apr 14th 2017
This product did exactly what it was supposed to do, as well as what I expected of it to do. Randall Manning on Jan 22nd 2016
Just got 2 of these in the other day. Had them installed in a few minutes and they seem very well made. onedumbtrucker on Sep 15th 2015
