The Extended Seimitsu LS 5x/6x Hollow Joystick Shaft adds 11.75mm (.46") length over the stock LS-56 shaft. This shaft was designed to assist installing your LS joystick lever into a maximum 3/4" (18mm) MDF wooden control panel. It is compatible with joysticks from the Seimitsu LS-5x and 6x series, including LS-56, LS-58, LS-60 and LS-62.
The joystick shaft's additional defining characteristic is its 3mm diameter (.11") hollow center. This allows you to thread wiring for single color or 3mm RGB LED projects that take advantage of hollow balltops or battops. The joystick shaft retains the original diameter of the stock model.
The original Seimitsu LS-5x or 6x shaft e-clip is incompatible, due to the e-clip area diameter needed for the hollow shaft. Each LS-5x/6x hollow shaft will include an e-clip that will fit this model.
The hollow shaft matches the threading found in the stock shaft. This means that nearly all balltop and battop accessories that currently fit the standard LS series shaft are compatible. Exceptions include all Seimitsu LS-5x or 6x shaft and dustwasher accessories, since the shaft is longer than the standard model, and the dustwasher conforms to the shaft. We did find that the Solo Sanwa JLF Dustwasher - Fits Sanwa JLF without Shaft Cover (Set of 2) will work with this shaft. Additionally, you can custom order a LS-5x or 6x dustwasher for a model without a shaft cover.
KOWAL is the name of a well-respected member on Shoryuken.com forums and elsewhere in the arcade community. He has extensive knowledge of the inner workings of many control devices, and designer of many popular gameplay enhancement products such as the Kowal 1mm Oversize Actuator for Sanwa JLF Series Joystick, KOWAL Hayabusa Octopus Octagonal Restrictor Plate and KOWAL LS.ST Short Throw Mod for Seimitsu LS-55/56/58/60-01 Joystick, plus essentials such as the KOWAL Flat Plate Converter. With his permission, we were able to design a joystick shaft series that precisely measures the specific model and its mounting plate variations, supporting his brand of performance solutions that highlight accuracy and compatibility above all else.
I ended up putting this together with a Kowal Short Throw Mod, and now my shmup stick is tight and responsive.
If you have a bubble balltop too, you could add an LED and feed it through the shaft easily, for that extra bling-bling!
This shaft works as intended. straight-forward. Gillaxian on Apr 27th 2020
I built my fightstick with a 3/4 inch thick top panel, and routed 3/8 an inch underneath it to fit my Seimitsu LS-56-01 joystick nicely. I noticed that this taller shaft would offset the difference in height I had to make pretty well, so I ordered it and received the new shaft on my front porch the next 2 days. It made the joystick very comfortable in my hands, however I noticed that it had an issue returning to neutral, where the joystick was still touching the brass pins even after you fully let go. Focusattack's support was unable to help me identify the issue, which I believe to be the pivot underneath not fully fitting the new shaft. It's not a very big deal, but for games like Tekken where you are making very precise motions with your joystick, it wound up being a very big detriment to me for what was supposed to be a performance mod. I wound up going back to the original shaft after a few days time. If you don't play fighting games where this would be an issue, or don't have it at all, then I would recommend this product if you're not comfortable with your joystick, or want to thread LEDs into it.
