The Extended Sanwa JLF Joystick Shaft adds 15mm (.59") length over the stock 68mm shaft (from base to threading). This shaft was designed to assist installing your Sanwa JLF joystick lever into a maximum 3/4" (18mm) MDF wooden control panel. It is compatible with joysticks from the Sanwa JLF series, including TP-8YT, TP-8YT-SK, TPRG-AYT-SK, and TPRG-8BYT-SK.
The hollow shaft matches the threading found in the stock shaft. This means that nearly all balltop and battop accessories that currently fit the standard JLF series shaft are compatible. Exceptions include all Sanwa JLF-CD Shaft & Dustwasher Set models, since the shaft is longer than the standard model, and the dustwasher conforms to the shaft. Instead, please consider Solo Sanwa JLF Dustwasher - Fits Sanwa JLF without Shaft Cover (Set of 2) when purchasing this shaft.
The Hori Hayabusa Joystick has remained popular partly due to its interchangeability with Sanwa JLF compatible components such as springs and actuator. Of them, you can also install this shaft. Our support contact Joey Wainwright shows you how to install the shaft in this article.
KOWAL is the name of a well-respected member on Shoryuken.com forums and elsewhere in the arcade community. He has extensive knowledge of the inner workings of many control devices, and designer of many popular gameplay enhancement products such as the Kowal 1mm Oversize Actuator for Sanwa JLF Series Joystick, KOWAL Hayabusa Octopus Octagonal Restrictor Plate and KOWAL LS.ST Short Throw Mod for Seimitsu LS-55/56/58/60-01 Joystick, plus essentials such as the KOWAL Flat Plate Converter. With his permission, we were able to design a joystick shaft series that precisely measures the specific model and its mounting plate variations, supporting his brand of performance solutions that highlight accuracy and compatibility above all else.
as the title states, awesome for 3/4" wood control panel reproduction if the original metal is priced too high. a 3mm led will fit inside the bore hole, just attach your resistor to the wire after it's already out of the joystick, depending on your wire guage. makes it look awesome. This extension, combined with a bat top handle is probably as close as it's gonna get to the Happs of my youth.
Spent most of my career working in kitchens prepping/chopping ingredients and peeling more shrimp then I want to think about. My hands are wrecked as a result. With this, I can comfortably wrap my hand around the stick with out my nerves acting up and taking a trip to Tingle Town. Finally able to play all day with out having to take an "old man break."
TL;DR - Extremely happy with my purchase! indifference84 on Mar 15th 2021
Combine this with a battop, and it'll give your Sanwa or Hayabusa joystick the same height as a western Happ/IL joystick. It may not be as thick (especially since there aren't any shaft covers for this. There's an idea for you FA!), but the same height, so you can wrap all of your fingers around it.
I put this in my Hayabusa, along with a set of Cherry switches, a 3lb spring, and the kowal actuator and octo gate, and it feels almost like an IL joystick. I'm still partial towards IL, but this is a great alternative regardless. Richie on Jun 13th 2018
Put it into my Hayabusa, and it is perfect. Makes the shaft longer, not much else to say. Works as expected. Unknown on Mar 9th 2018
The Good:
+ Well made, good quality - no sharp edges which is a major plus.
+ Well weighted, not excessively heavy.
+ In theory it makes movement easier as a longer shaft does mean less effort required to move the lever.
+ If you need to slip in an LED, the shaft allows you to!
The Neutral:
~ A little bit too pricey for what it is, although generally it isn't expensive at all.
The Bad:
- Nothing really!
A longer shaft is for those who has a wider base palm and thus need to have a longer reach in order not to feel cramped holding the stick. If you are one those who finds that you get cramped up, then a longer shaft may help.
Another usage scenario for a longer shaft is if you find that a higher tension spring is too much and needs to just balance it out a little, the longer shaft will indeed help due to needing less effort to tilt the lever. This is simply physics.
Overall, this shaft is a niche requirement but it does have its own niche space to fill. Ben Tan on Aug 8th 2017
